NEVER GET YOUR MOWER FIXED HERE!!!I put my mower in 4 weeks ago for a carburettor flush only. Was told it will be 4 weeks. I was given a quote that I was satisfied with and asked them to proceed. HOWEVER they call me to collect my mower 3 weeks later, earlier than quoted completion time and tell me that if I don’t get it this week they will charge me storage fees (nowhere in the terms and conditions). Horrified, I go to collect my mower to find they have done further works - without my consent!!!- and the price is a lot more! Held my mower to ransom until I paid them. I could have bought a new mower for what I had to pay.. Rip off merchants that take women and the elderly for a ride. In a time when we are in a cost of living crisis, this trading behaviour is inexcusable. I am absolutely disgusted.

Mower wouldn’t start and went to Mount Gravatt Mower Service. They quoted $289 to fix it which included replacement of air filter, replacement of carburettor, drain and replace bad fuel, replace oil and replace blades (told one was chipped). My Victor 550ex Briggs and Stratton mower is newish and was worth about $500 to buy so I went in to pick up mower and not proceed with quote to repair as it didn’t seem cost effective ($289 to fix a $500 mower). I was told that I would have to pay a $25 quote fee to get the mower back. Looked around shop and didn’t see any signage to indicate this. I asked for a printed copy of the quote for my reference and was informed that they don’t give out quotes. Here is where the story gets interesting. I asked why the stated repairs would be so high and I was told that the mower was made in China where they can pay $5 per hour but under fair work mechanic at Mount Gravatt Mower centre are paid in excess of $100 per hour. I personally don’t understand how a business could talk down a produce (Briggs and Stratton) when they proudly call themselves an accredited repairer. Would suggest that is the first misrepresentation. I was told the $25 would deducted from the repair cost when I returned the mower for repair. I advised that I would definitely not return the mower to this business and would treat the $25 quote as a penalty for using their service. Anyway, short story long, I bought a replacement filter and spark plug from Bunnings and installed them myself after a few minutes looking at YouTube. No new carburettor, same fuel which was said to be bad, same oil which I was told needed to be changed and interestingly no chip in any of the four blades. Started first time. Saved well over $250 doing the job myself. Be very cautious using the Mount Gravatt Mower service.

I have been using these guys for my supplies for over 20 years and recently had my yearly service requiring several out of the box options given the age of a couple of the tools and they were exceptional. They didn’t try to up sell me with new options and went out of their way to find the components to fix my aging equipment knowing exactly what was best for me, great work guys there are very few old school mower shops around any more!

Excellent service. I would highly recommend. We are new home owners and we have never had a yard to mow. They guided us towards the best options that suits us then did a full walkthrough tutorial for both the mower and whipper snipper. The equipment they sold us is awesome and we couldn’t be happier. They even followed up a week later to make sure we were happy with the equipment and everything was working okay. Old school service. Won’t get this at Bunnings. An added bonus is that they primarily stock Australian, quality brands - a rarity in our disposable consumerism economy.
