Alfred Square — Turf Installation in St Kilda, VIC

Alfred Square is only a small park but occupies a very commanding position on the St Kilda Esplanade, overlooking Port Phillip Bay. Previously named Custom Reserve, it was renamed in July 1868 to Alfred Square after Prince Alfred, the second son and fourth child of Queen Victoria. The square is grassed and landscaped mainly along the Esplanade frontage. There are a number of park bench seats. Alfred Square is directly opposite The Esplanade Tram Stop 136 on routes 3a, 16 and 96. There are a number of historical landmarks in Alfred Square. In the centre of the square, where the two-crossed paths cross, stands the tall South African War Memorial Memorial (1905) which pays tribute to the St Kilda soldiers who fought and died in the South African (Boer) War. Just to the left of this is the Victoria Cross Memorial (1985) dedicated "In memory of all Australians who died in war so that we may have peace". In the north-west area of the square there's a plaque embedded into volcanic rock that commemorates the site of the first recorded building in St Kilda.

I like Alfred Square even though I haven't spent any actual time there! I can easily observe it from where I wait for the trams. 🚉⛲👀

A hidden treasure. Nice coffee if u look up nice eye art . Cakes are not commercial cakes there r amazing so yum. Try the fig cake u want reget it. Has a healthy choice small but good menu. Service is spot on u r mad to feel comfortable. Love the coffee shop there I will be back.
