I don't know what's happened to Mawson's on South St. I have been living interstate for many years and have returned. Visited today and the nursery needs a total overhaul. There doesn't seem to be much stock of anything including new pots and giftware. Thd place is very run down and outdated. Sorry can't recommend this place if you are looking for large plants or pits/gift warehouse.

Staff here are always friendly, approachable, honest, and ridiculously knowledgeable. If you want to deep-dive into plant care and make sure you’re getting a the correct plants for your intended space, they’ll take the time to walk you through it—no rushed sales talk, just solid advice. If you’re running late to a birthday party at the pub next door and need a last-minute gift? No stress. You’ll be in and out with the best present before they’ve even finished pouring your pint at the pub. 10/10.

Fabulous locally owned business with very helpful, friendly & knowledgeable staff. No sales pressure, browsing and questions welcome. A great lil waterwise gardening gem. Ample free parking on South Terrace, Duoro or nearby streets/beach parking but be mindful that when the sun is out parking is limited (not their fault!) so plan ahead. Free local delivery on larger orders. 💚🪴

Harbour plants is my all time favourite nursery for so many reasons. I’ve been shopping here for 2 years and here’s a breakdown of my experience start to finish (finish being when the garden can no longer support my plant purchasing habits) The owners, Sue and Rupert are so welcoming and warm and helpful, they always say yes and they’ve hired staff who both compliment them and offer eclectic diversity and knowledge of a multitude of plants to their team. Plus they love a chat in general and about your garden, help with pests and soil health (most of which I didn’t know before and couldn’t get conclusive evidence from google search or Gardening Australia) Most of the staff have unique backgrounds in horticulture/permaculture/landscaping/design/sustainability and offer extra services outside of the nursery, I hired Asha to help me completely design my backyard and gave me advice on sun position, watering habits and council advice for building structures. This was super enlightening for something that could be quite overwhelming Listen, they don’t stock your traditional cottage garden roses but they do have the most stunning variety of native and native adjacent plants (perfect for coastal, Mediterranean, sustainable or low maintenance gardens), when you go to harbour plants expect the unexpected and have a gander, it’s not Bunnings so taking your time to really look at everything is a must! And as far as prices go, they’re reasonable for the size and quality of the plant, they are super resilient and have put in a lot of love to keep them thriving and healthy, so they grow quickly and need less attention once planted Lastly, the location means you can have a swim, buy some plants, have a bev at the pub and get them delivered which has been a godsend At this point in the game I feel like HP are my freo family/friends, they definitely make you feel that way and for those of you looking for a vibe, it’s casual and relaxed, they way you should feel in a garden.
